Bulk materials are stored in silos and transported underground for processing using hydraulic or pneumatic pumps, which operate at up to 2 bar (30 psi). The pipeline, typically DN 80 or DN 100, can reach lengths of 50 meters, with larger sizes requiring auxiliary systems. Coupling connections are increasingly used for faster assembly and easier servicing, allowing quick disconnection and reconnection when needed.
Some pipelines are used in vertical mining shaft applications. They can be free-hanging or secured to a shaft wall with brackets. Thermal expansion, static load calculations, diameter reducers, transition pipes and elbows are a few of the many considerations in vertical shaft mining pipe systems. ESSER employs a team of experienced engineers to assist with the conception, design, manufacture and installation of these complex systems.
Tailings and overburden are often transported back underground from surface storage. These abrasive materials are mixed with water and binding agents such as cement, lime, or fly ash underground and used to stabilize shafts, drifts, and voids created during mining. To create the shortest possible connection from the surface to the underground, pipes are laid through boreholes. Pipe connections must therefore be stable and quick to install, while at the same time being slim and space-saving. A combination of ESSER TWIN 700 and the ZSM connection system from Carl Hamm was developed to provide a stable and space-saving solution that also ensures high wear resistance and is therefore designed for long-term operation.
Tailings or construction materials (concrete) are often transported underground for kilometers. High-density solids pumps with high working pressures are used in this application. ESSER high-pressure pipes with multiple degrees of hardness are used in these systems. Neuralgic points can be reinforced (elbows and elbow outlet pipes). They are connected via pipe couplings and designed for working pressures up to 200 bar.
